Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology adheres to the belief that science and technology are essential tools for harnessing natural resources for sustainable development and producing environments that are conducive to human survival and potential realization. The moral duty of the human being is therefore to innovate for the benefit of the environment. This can be done by putting together a well-thought-out system of education, science, and technology that gives every person the opportunity to participate in and learn the skills necessary to support this objective.

About Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology

Kenya’s Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology also referred to as MMUST or formerly Western University College of Science and Technology is a non-profit, public university. Masinde Muliro, a politician from Kenya who helped build the university, is recognized with a name for it. The Main Campus (Kakamega Town) and its two satellite campuses, Webuye Campus and Bungoma Campus, together with all of its branches total around 25,000 students.

In 2007, MMUST received full public university accreditation. It was a constituent institution of Moi University until gaining full university status. Western College, also known as WECO, is a college of arts and applied sciences that offer technical courses and grants certifications and diplomas. It was founded in January 1972. It changed its name to Western University College of Science and Technology in 2002 after becoming a constituent college of Moi University. The community is welcome to use the university’s resources, such as the library and other facilities.

Prof. Frederick Otieno, the vice-chancellor of the institution, just completed a five-year term. Dr. Joseph Bosire is serving in an interim capacity. Solomon Shibairo is the vice chancellor at the moment.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), which has received official recognition from the Kenyan Commission for University Education, offers courses and programs that lead to degrees in several fields of study, including pre-bachelor degrees (such as certificates, diplomas, associate, or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, and doctorate degrees. 

The higher education facility in Kenya, which is 15 years old, has stringent admissions criteria based on applicants’ prior academic performance and grades. This Kenyan higher education school is somewhat selective due to the admission rate range of 70-80%. The application process is open to applicants from abroad. Students at MMUST can also take advantage of several academic and extracurricular facilities and services, such as a library, sports facilities, study abroad and exchange opportunities, online courses and distance learning opportunities, administrative services, and programs for international students.
