Methodist University College Ghana (MUCG) is a private university in Ghana. Students of every race, color, nationality, and ethnic origin are welcome at Methodist University and are eligible to participate in all programs, events, rights, and benefits that the university offers to its students. In its admissions procedures, athletic activities, and other school-run initiatives, it does not discriminate based on race, color, nationality, or ethnic origin. The university is situated in the Greater Accra Area, in Accra. After receiving accreditation from the National Accreditation Board in August 2000, it was founded by the Methodist Church Ghana in October 2000. Academic work began on the Wesley Grammar School site in November 2000.
There are no political ties between the university and Ghana or any other country. The educational purpose of Morality, Excellence, and Service will be accomplished by Methodist University College Ghana in collaboration with all interested parties.
About Methodist University College Ghana
In 1835, the Wesleyan Mission Society made its way to Ghana. Since that time, the Methodist Church has worked to provide and advance basic, senior secondary, and teacher preparation programs of the highest caliber.
Under the then-existing educational reform program, the role of churches—including the Methodist Church—in providing elementary, secondary, and teacher education was diminished in 1961. The decision to manage the mission schools and training colleges was made by the government. Several secondary schools and training institutions were also constructed.
There are six public universities in Ghana at the moment: the University of Ghana, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the University of Cape Coast, the University of Education Winneba, the University for Development Studies, and the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa.
Despite the establishment of these six institutions, a great deal of concern has been expressed over the universities’ institutional infrastructure’s ability to accommodate eligible applicants who wish to take advantage of the chance for postsecondary education. The Methodist Church in Ghana was certain that with its distinctive track record and experience in the delivery of education at the elementary, secondary, and teacher education levels, it could help find solutions to the issues associated with providing education at all levels.
A Methodist University College will be established, the Church determined at its 36th Annual Conference in 1997 in Cape Coast. In August 2000, the National Accreditation Board gave accreditation to the Methodist University College Ghana (MUCG) following the required procedures and preparations. In October 2002, it received approval for its application to affiliate with the University of Ghana. In October 2000, MUCG began its academic year.
In November 2000, the first group of students showed up for class, followed by the second group in October 2001. The tenth academic year of the University College has just ended.
