Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) is a Nigerian public university. It is one of the state-owned universities in Nigeria.

About Abia State University Uturu
The start of the university was in 1981 in the previous Imo State under the name of Imo State University, Etiti. The university was recognized by Sam Mbakwe when he was Governor of old Imo State.
The core campus was situated at Etiti, Imo State, while the Law Department was situated on an unconnected Campus at Aba. Between 1984 and 1985 under the military governorship of General Ike Nwachukwu, the university stimulated its enduring site at Uturu Okigwe.
Ensuring the creation of Abia State in 1991, the Uturu campus of the University was yielded to Abia State and is now known as Abia State University Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Abia State, Nigeria. The university is planned in colleges and schools having originated in the same collegiate system that the University of Nebraska operates.
Studies at Abia State University contain undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate degrees. It has two campuses- its core campus in Uturu; and the College of Law, College of Agriculture, and Veterinary Medicine housed by the campus in Umuahia, capital of Abia State, Nigeria.

Who founded ABSU?
Answer: Samuel “Sam” Onunaka Mbakwe (1929 5 January 2004) also known as Dee Sam was an Igbo politician and first democratic governor of Imo State, southern Nigeria from 1 October 1979 till 31 December 1983. The Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, situated in Owerri, the state capital, was retitled after him. In 1981, Sam Mbakwe set up Imo State University. The campus was situated in a territory that was ceded to Abia State in 1991 and was re-christened Abia State University. Though, Imo State University learned a new campus in Owerri and still exists.
What are the requirements for ABSU?
Answer: ABSU admission requirements through UTME
Applicants must have reached the age of 16.
Applicants must have at least 6 (six) “Cs (Credits)” grades in their O’level result (s). This must contain English Language, Mathematics, and three other subjects connected to their course of study. For instance, an Applicant that wants to study law must have a “C” in English Language, Mathematics, Government/History, Economics, and Literature in English.
Applicants must score at least 160 in the JAMB UTME examination
Applicants must the ake ABSU post UTME screening examination and must perform very well in the examination (Depending on the course of study)
Not more than ONE sitting result is acknowledged for admission into the Abia State University (ABSU).
Applicants must select the correct subject combination for their courses.
Lastly, applicants must meet the specified cutoff marks for their courses to gain admission into the university.
ABSU admission requirements through Direct Entry
Applicants must own at least five (5) Credits in their O’level result. This must contain English Language and Mathematics. Though, two sitting result is not allowed.
Applicants must have also reached the age of 16.
