About Arrupe Jesuit University

The Zimbabwe-Mozambique Province of the Society of Jesus operates the fully certified, private, Catholic, international, and multicultural Arrupe Jesuit University, often known by the abbreviation AJU, in Harare, Zimbabwe. In 1994, the Jesuits established it. On December 7, 2017, preliminary accreditation was awarded by the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE), an agency of the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science, Technology, and Development. Fr. A. E. Orobator, SJ, the president of the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM), inaugurated the new institution on February 24, 2018. ZIMCHE granted full certification on December 3, 2018. Arrupe College Jesuit School of Philosophy and Humanities was the name under which Arrupe Jesuit University was first established in 1994. 

The Jesuits of Zimbabwe and Mozambique (JCAM) hold it in trust.

Father Pedro Arrupe, the 28th Superior General of the Jesuits and a champion of social and economic justice, is the inspiration behind the name AJU. The International Association of Jesuit Universities (IAJU), which includes over 300 universities worldwide, includes AJU as a member. The Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and the University of Zimbabwe are both associate members of the School of Philosophy and Humanities. Today, Arrupe is accessible to students from all backgrounds.

The School of Philosophy and Humanities, the School of Engineering and ICT, and the School of Education and Leadership are Arrupe Jesuit University’s three main schools or faculties as of 2019. The university provides four main degree programs: bachelor’s degrees in philosophy, transformational leadership, ICT, and arts. Moreover, it provides a wide range of diploma programs in project management, development studies, guidance and counseling, learning disabilities, Cisco certifications, web development, and Android application development. Shona, French, English, German, Portuguese, and Italian are available via the language department.

Normal Entry

A student must have 2 Advanced Level subject passes or their equivalent in relevant fields along with 5 Ordinary Level passes, including the English Language, to be eligible for normal entry.

Mature Entry

Candidates for mature entry must be at least twenty-five (25) years old on the first day of the academic year for which admission is sought and ineligible for either the normal or special entry regulations. Candidates must also have completed at least five (5) approved ‘O’ level subjects, including English language.

Entry Requirements for a Postgraduate Degree Programme

A Bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent, in a subject or subjects related to the course applied for, from an approved university.

Entry Requirements for a Master’s Degree Programme

  • Application requirements include passing the English Language at the Ordinary Level or a recognized equivalent.
  • An applicant must typically hold a suitable Honours Degree from the Upper Second Division or higher.
  • If the candidate has earned a First or Upper Second Class performance in the desired field of study, a Lower Second Division honors degree may be taken into consideration.
