About Chuka University

Kenya’s Tharaka Nithi County is home to the public institution known as Chuka Institution. The university is located in a rural area on the eastern slopes of Mount Kenya at an elevation of roughly 2,000 meters above sea level, 186 kilometers from Nairobi along the Nairobi-Meru route. Within Tharaka-Nithi County’s Chuka/Igamba-ng’ombe Constituency is where Chuka University is located.

Under Legal Notice No. 161 of 2007, Chuka University was formed as a public university. It served as the Eastern Campus College of Egerton University’s predecessor and was a constituent college of that institution. The Campus College was created on September 27, 2004, by the Egerton University Council to increase access to high-quality, reasonably priced university education for residents of Kenya’s Eastern region and the country as a whole. His Excellence On September 12, 2008, President Mwai Kibaki appointed the university’s first Council. Wilfred Murungi, a well-known businessman, was chosen to lead the Chuka University Council as its initial chairman.

In September 2015, Chuka University first created The University College as one of its campuses.

Eastern Province’s first higher education facility was Chuka University. By creating the institution, the government aimed to increase educational equity and access for residents of the area and Kenya as a whole. This came about as a result of the government realizing that education improves economic, social, and political governance and serves as a catalyst for Kenya’s transformation into the industrialized middle-income country envisioned in Vision 2030.

The institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Erastus Njoka, is supported in carrying out the mission of the institution by two DVCs, two Registrars, and a Finance Officer. The Chuka University Students Association (CUSA), which is currently chaired by Oscar Kipchumba and chosen by the students at the start of each year, serves as the voice of the students.

Since Chuka Town is only about 1 kilometer distant and the Ndagani market is currently developing, students have quick access to socioeconomic services. The student center’s recreational amenities, including a pool, are almost ready. In addition to the accommodation options outside the main campus, new student hostel construction is ongoing.
