About Laikipia University

A university in Kenya named Laikipia is situated in Nyahururu. It is a prestigious education university. (Arts). Main Campus is its only campus.

William Thomas Alfred Levet established Laikipia University in 1929 as a kindergarten. The facility was used as a Large-Scale Farmer’s Training College between 1965 and 1970. (LSFTC). The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry oversaw LSFTC. It was transformed into an Animal Husbandry and Industry Training Institute (AHITI) in October 1979, offering a two-year program that results in a Certificate in Animal Health. Laikipia University was founded as an affiliate campus of Egerton University in 1990.

This was done in response to the recommendations of a government committee established to investigate ways to accept a double intake of secondary school students. It was intended to offer graduate-level education courses for teacher preparation.

Between 1990 and 2010, it continued to be a campus of Egerton University with a focus on BEd Arts and BA programs. When His Excellency Hon. Mwai Kibaki, the then-President of the Republic of Kenya, granted the institution a charter on February 19, 2013, it became a constituent university college of Egerton University.

Along the Nakuru – Nyahururu Highway, the University Main Campus is situated 50 km from Nakuru Town and 11 km from Nyahururu Town. It is located in a peaceful setting that is good for learning. The Main Campus, where the majority of courses are provided and students are located, is the hub of the university. The Main Campus is home to a variety of amenities, including classrooms, labs, libraries, cybercafés, bookshops, sports and game areas, dorms for student housing, a health center, restaurants, a farm, and Lake Chacha.

The Republic of Kenya’s then President and Commander in Chief of the Defense Forces, His Excellency Hon. Mwai Kibaki E.G.H., granted the University a charter on February 19, 2013, establishing the institution as a full-fledged university.
