About Harare Institute of Technology

The Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) is a university in Zimbabwe that specializes in technology-related studies. The National Vocational Training Center (NVTC) which is now known as the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) was founded in 1988. With time, it changed into a technical college that offered programs in mechanical, electrical, and automotive engineering. These programs produced skilled workers who could operate and maintain industrial machinery with little to no research or creation of new technologically related knowledge.

For all economic sectors, HIT conducts research, designs, manufactures, develops, incubates, transfers, and commercializes technology.

With the adoption of the Harare Institute of Technology Act, Chapter 25:26, HIT was given the authority to award degrees. The Center for technology development and the Delivery of Undergraduate and graduate-level Technology Programs is the Harare Institute of Technology. The programs include Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech)Honors Degrees in the following fields: B.Tech. with honors in software engineering, computer science, and electronics engineering B.Pharm., Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honors Bachelor of Technology with Honours in E-Commerce, Financial Engineering, Chemical Process Systems Engineering, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Biotechnology, Food Processing Technology, Information Technology, and Information Security and Assurance. After the University of Zimbabwe, the university boasts the second-ranked School of Pharmacy.

The Pharmacy curriculum at H.I.T. is distinctive since it covers both the clinical and production sides of pharmacy. The program complies with WHO recommendations for the health sector. Following approval from the Ministry of Health and the Pharmacists Council of Zimbabwe (PCZ), the School of Pharmacy opened its doors in 2011. Professor Mazuru Gundidza, a pharmacist with more than 32 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, is the school’s current chairman.
