About Helwan University

A public university with more than 350 acres located in Helwan, Egypt, a suburb of Greater Cairo, is called Helwan University (140 ha). Together with 50 research centers, it has two higher educational institutions and 23 faculties.

A member of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities is Helwan University. Act No. 70 of 1975 established over 350 acres of land on July 26, 1980. Of Cairo’s three main government universities, this one is the newest.

The “Operational School” was founded during the rule of Egyptian president Muhammad Ali in the nineteenth century. Many of the institutions that subsequently came together to establish the university had their roots in those schools’ specialties. Helwan University, the newest of Cairo’s three main governmental universities, is home to some of the oldest faculties in both Egypt and the Middle East. For instance, the Faculty of Applied Arts was founded in 1839, while the Faculty of Fine Arts and the School of Art Education were founded in 1908 and 1936, respectively.

The university’s main campus is located in Helwan, Cairo. While some of the universities there have relocated, others are still found at Zamalek, Boulaq, Giza, El Manyal, and Ain Shams. The University is placed 1987th in the world and 10th in Egypt in the Webometrics Ranking of Global Universities. The University placed ninth in Egypt and 41st in the Arab Region in the QS rankings for 2020.
