Ho Technical University

The Ho Technological University was established in 1968. The main reason it was founded as a Technical Institute was to offer pre-technical education. The institute had significantly improved the courses it offered by 1972. As a result, courses in the engineering and vocational disciplines, such as basic engineering, agricultural and mechanical engineering, building technology, and business education, replaced the pre-technical programs.

About Ho Technical University

A public postsecondary school in Ghana’s Volta Region is called Ho Technical University; it was once known as Ho Polytechnic. With the primary objective of providing pre-technical education, the Polytechnic began as a technical institute in 1968. The Institute advanced its programs and made significant strides by 1972. The facility underwent an upgrade to become a Polytechnic in 1986. Yet it wasn’t until 1993 that it received full legal support (Polytechnic Law 321) to become a fully-fledged tertiary institution, in charge of educating students to the Higher National Diploma (HND) and Degree Levels.

The University has its roots in the previous Ho Technical Institute, which was founded in 1968 to offer pre-technical training programs in several engineering and building trades. The pre-technical courses were modified to more specialized programs in business, technology, and other vocational fields in 1972.

Although the Technical Institute was renamed a Polytechnic in 1986, it wasn’t until 1993 that it received full legal support to become a tertiary institution with statutory goals and functions (PNDC Law 321 as revised by ACT 745).

The university offers Non-Tertiary Programs, Higher National Diploma (HND), Master of Technology (MTech), and Bachelor of Technology (BTech) Programs. The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is connected with Master of Technology (MTech) programs on a sandwich basis. The course is offered over two (2) academic semesters.
