About Islamic University College Ghana
One of Ghana’s private universities is the Islamic University College. It is situated in the Greater Accra Area near East Legon. It was started by Dr. Abdolmajid Hakimollahi in 2000. The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Ahlul Bait Foundation sponsored this event. Both tentatively and finally, it received accreditation in 2001 and 2002.
A semi-Non-Governmental Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran called the Ahlul-Bait Foundation founded the Islamic University College, Ghana (IUCG) in September 2000. The Foundation was in charge of a variety of educational, religious, and cultural institutions in Iran as well as other nations throughout the world. Since the early 1980s, the Foundation has operated in Ghana, supporting some of the most underprivileged and underprivileged populations there via a variety of health, agriculture, and educational projects.
When the Ghanaian government’s policy was changed in 1997 to permit private participation in the delivery of tertiary education, the Ahlul-Bait Foundation decided to found the Islamic University College, Ghana (IUCG) as a means of promoting secular education (especially at the tertiary level) among Muslim and underprivileged or marginalized communities in Ghana. Land that had been previously purchased in 1995 and was placed at the current site (East Legon – Adjiringanor in Accra) was reassigned for the formation of the University to serve the West African sub-region.
However, the Foundation established an Islamic Training Institute in a rented apartment at Abelenkpe, Accra, in 1986, giving birth to the concept of a university college. The initial group of 15 students was accepted into the Institute to pursue a two-year program in Islamic theology with the primary goal of educating the Muslim youth of Ghana in the highest ethical and spiritual standards. The Institute became the Ahlul Bait Islamic Academy in 1988. This was done to fulfill the objective to give Muslim academics and students from Ghana and the surrounding nations access to facilities for research into Islamic sciences.
The National Accreditation Board granted provisional accreditation to the Islamic University College in Ghana with effect from 2001. 15 students were admitted on April 10th, 2001, to a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies (Islamic option). The University College enrolled a second group of 42 students in September of the same year. A four-year degree program in business administration with specializations in accounting, banking, finance, and marketing was approved for introduction by the University College in September 2002.
