About Igbinedion University
It was founded and established on 10 May 1999, following the Certificate of endorsement by the Federal Government of Nigeria with Certificate No. 001. Thus, Igbinedion University became the first licensed Private University in Nigeria and the foundation students came to Okada on Friday 15 October 1999. The University is founded at Okada, headquarters of Ovia North-East Local Government Area, Edo state. The university was founded by Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion CFR, a philanthropist, and a Chief in Benin.
Both the graduate and undergraduate programs of the University are accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the appropriate professional bodies.

Who founded OUI?
Answer: Gabriel Igbinedion. Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion (born 11 September 1934) is a Nigerian businessman and traditional aristocrat from Okada Town in Edo State. He holds the chieftaincy title of the Esama of the Benin Kingdom. Chief Igbinedion is married to Lady Cherry Igbinedion, a native of Jamaica. His children include a son, Lucky, who was a two-term Local Government chairman and two-term Governor of Edo State, another son, Charles, who was a Local Government chairman and one time Edo State Commissioner of Education, and a third one, Peter, who was the managing director of the Nigerian Aviation Authority. His daughter, Hon. Omosede G. Igbinedion is the former wife of Avan Akenzua, a dynastic Prince of Benin Kingdom. She is a retired member of the House of Representatives in Abuja as a spokesperson for Ovia Federal Constituency in Edo State. In addition to these four, Chief Igbinedion also has several other children.
What are the requirements for OUI?
Answer: IOU admission necessities via UTME
Applicants must have reached the age of 16.
Applicants must have at least 6 (six) “Cs (Credits)” grades in their O’level result (s). This must have English Language, Mathematics, and three other subjects connected to their course of study. For instance, a Prospect that wants to study law must have a “C” in English Language, Mathematics, Government/History, Economics, and Literature in English.
Applicants must score at least 180 in the JAMB UTME examination
Applicants must take the IOU post UTME screening examination and must function very well in the examination.
Not more than ONE sitting result is taken for admission into the Igbinedion University Okada (IUO)
Prospects must choose the right subject combination for their courses.
Eventually, prospects must meet the specified cutoff marks for their courses to gain admission into the university.
IOU admission prerequisites via Direct Entry
Prospects must have at least five (5) Credits in their O’level result. This must contain English Language and Mathematics. Nevertheless, two sitting result is not permitted.
Prospects must have also reached the age of 16.
Prospects are anticipated to get JAMB Direct entry form from JAMB to apply.
Hopefuls should have any of the following credentials: OND, ND, NCE, IJMB, Cambridge A level, BSc, HND, ICAN
Igbinedion University General Entry Requirements:
To be qualified for admission into the four-year disciplines and five or six-year experienced programs, prospects must have a minimum of five credits at the GCE/WAEC, SSCE/NECO, or SSCE/NABTEB certificate examinations, which must contain English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings. Also, prospects seeking admission into Law must have at least a credit pass in Literature in English. Applicants awaiting GCE/NECO SSCE/WAEC SSCE/NABTEB results are also urged to apply delivered the results would be available by September when the new session begins.
Prospects may also pursue admission into the 200-level of degree programs with the following credentials:
Passes in at least two subjects at the Advanced level and an extra subject at the subsidiary level in the General Certificate of Education Examination. The subjects must include a proper preliminary to the conscious courses.
Diploma/NCE at credit level pass and above in the relevant subjects from an acknowledged institution.
IJMB in the relevant subjects.
First Degree in relevant discipline.
In all these cases, prospects must also meet the necessities for matriculation viz: five credit passes at the GCE/WAEC SSCE/NECO SSCE/NABTEB Certificate examinations.
Prospects are instructed to show proof of application to JAMB. UTME Requirement: Prospects applying for admission must sit for UTME and get the specified cut-off marks. This is a statutory prerequisite for entry into Nigerian universities. Age: Applicants who are above 22 years of age will not be considered qualified for admission. Older prospects may be accepted under unusual circumstances.
