About Ladoke Akintola University of Technology
In 1987, Governor Adetunji Olurin, the then Military Governor of Oyo State (now divided into two states: Oyo and Osun), received a demand from the Governing Council of The Polytechnic, Ibadan to start a State University. In 1988, he set up a seven-member interministerial committee under the chairperson of Mrs. Oyinkan Ayoola that suggested the creation of the university. By March 13, 1990, Nigeria’s federal military government acknowledged the State’s request. The edict establishing the Oyo State University of Technology was contracted on April 23, 1990, by Colonel Sasaenia Oresanya.
The first Vice-Chancellor of the university was Olusegun Ladimeji Oke. Throughout the time, Late Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola became the leading Chancellor in January 1991. The university initiated its first academic session on October 19, 1990, with a total of 436 applicants registered, four faculties, specifically Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Engineering and Management Sciences, and Pure and Applied Sciences. A College of Health Sciences was recognized a year later.
The name of the university was altered to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology after the parting of Osun State from Oyo State.
