Madonna University is the first Catholic university in Nigeria. It was attributed by National Universities Commission.
About Madonna University
Madonna University Nigeria has three campuses that are situated in Elele – Rivers State, Okija – Anambra State, and Akpugo – Enugu State. The campuses have dissimilar Faculties with Departments. The Okija campus in Anambra state has the following Faculties: Management and Social Sciences; Arts and Education, and Law.
The Elele campus has Faculties of Medicine and Surgery, and Pharmacology. The Akpugo campus has Faculty of Engineering. These campuses have their core libraries as well as libraries involved in Faculties and the Departments. The university graduates first class, second class, and third class students. The university also has a postgraduate programme and part-time programme that runs on Fridays and Saturdays.
Originated on 10 May 1999 in Okija, Anambra State, it was recognized by Father Edeh. Edeh had originated from Our Saviour Institute of Science and Technology in Enugu the preceding year. In 2004, under the sanction of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Madonna University’s core campus was stimulated to Elele in Rivers State.

Who founded Madonna University?
Answer: Emmanuel M.P. Edeh
Rev. Fr. Emmanuel M.P. Edeh frequently known as Father Edeh is a catholic priest of the Holy Ghost audience born on 20 May 1947 in Akpugo, Enugu State, Nigeria. He got a Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity (B.D.) from the Bigard Memorial Seminary an associate of Pontifical Urban University, Rome in 1976. He followed and made a Bachelor of Arts (BA), a Master of Arts (MA), and a PhD in Philosophy from De Paul University Illinois, USA. He also go a professional certificate in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), from Loyola University Medical Center. Fr. Edeh is the originator of the Centre for Peace, Justice, and Reconciliation; an association that is working near peaceful eradication of terrorism and violent extremism.
He is also the priest in charge of the Pilgrimage Centre of Eucharistic Adoration, the Sisters of Jesus the Saviour, the Fathers of Jesus the Saviour, the Contemplatives of Jesus the Saviour (monks), the contemplatives of Jesus the Saviour(nuns), Madonna University Nigeria, Caritas University, OSISATECH Polytechnic, OSISATECH College of Education, Madonna International Charity Peace Award (MICPA) foundation, Museum of Charms (voodoos) and Fetish Objects and Healthcare Institutions. Following his calling Fr. Edeh, has supported the less advantaged in society as well as endorsed peaceful conflict resolution in his native country of Nigeria. His religious congregations also run clinics and homes for the orphans, the sick, the incapacitated, and the mentally ill. They also run soup kitchens, schools, conflict resolution, and counseling programs.
What are the requirements for Madonna University?
Answer: Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME):
An Applicant for admission into the Faculty must hold at smallest senior secondary school certificate or GCE Ordinary Level with credits in (5) five subjects, with English Language, English Literature and Mathematics got at not more than TWO sittings. The applicant must also have a satisfactory pass in the UTME.
Direct Entry:
(a) Applicant must content the necessities of five (5) credit passes in GCE, WAEC or corresponding but TWO of the papers must be approved at an advanced level.
(b) Passes Two-Year or Three Year Diploma in Law (Upper Credit) from a Nigerian University or corresponding Institution plus Credit passes in three papers, with English Language and English Literature in SSSC, GCE O/L or equal and a pass in mathematics OR
(c) Three (3) papers at the principal or Advanced level in Higher School Certificate or GCE A/L together with credit in English Language and English Literature in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination or GCE O/L or equivalent plus a pass in mathematics, or
(d) Two (2) Papers at principle or Advanced level in HSC or GCE A/L plus Credit in three papers (with English Language and English literature and a pass in Mathematics) in SSC Examination or GCE O/L or their equal.
Application for transfer to the Faculty will be preserved on its own.
