About Mogadishu University
Mogadishu University is a recognized private institution in Mogadishu, Somalia (Arabic: Somali: Jaamacadda Muqdisho). It took five years to construct and open the university after the concept to start a school was first conceived in June 1997. A Board of Trustees and a University Council oversee the non-profit, higher education institution, which debuted in September 1997.
The Main campus, which is located outside of Mogadishu, is where Mogadishu University has moved its operations. The Islamic Development Bank, among other contributors, helped launch the main campus in Mogadishu. The Bosaso campus of Mogadishu University, which recently split off to become Red Sea University in Somalia, was established in the northeastern Puntland province of Somalia in 2008.
The organization has been invited to join the Educational Sector Committee of the Somali Aid Coordination Body (SACB). The SACB Educational Sector Committee meeting was held in Nairobi, Kenya, on September 21, 2004, and representatives from MU, Mr. Fathudin Mohamed, Westley Bii, and Hussein M. Iman (MU Program Director), were present.
A partnership agreement was signed with the University of Troms during a 10-day visit to Norway by two delegates from MU, Dr. Abdurahman Moalim Abdullahi, the chairman of the board of trustees, and Dr. Abdullahi Farah Asseyr, MD, adviser to the president and head of the faculty of health sciences affairs.
