About Pwani University

Pwani University is a public university in Kenya’s Kilifi County, which is part of the larger Kilifi County. It is situated in the resort town of Kilifi, 60 kilometers north of Mombasa. The institution was a constituent college of Kenyatta institution until receiving a charter. The college, which was originally known as the Kilifi Institute of Agriculture, was founded on August 23, 2007, after an executive decree from H.E. President Mwai Kibaki.

The University is situated along the Mombasa-Malindi highway not far from Kilifi Bay. It has space for future growth as it sits on 239 hectares of land. It was established on August 23, 2007. On October 20, 2007, the first cohort of over 200 students, primarily in the fields of Education (Science) and Education, registered. (Arts). The institution organized a stakeholders forum in conjunction with the National Council for Scientific and Technology to address the issue of low scientific performance in KSCE examinations and low conversion rates from primary to secondary and university level in Coastal Kenya.

Since 2008, the institution has taken part in the Mombasa International Agricultural Show to spread the word about regional development to more people. In this trade show, the university presents the results of scientific research and practical solutions that farmers may utilize to address issues with agricultural production, food security, and agribusiness.
