The United Methodist University (UMU) is a private university with its main campus in Monrovia, Liberia, a country in West Africa. The school, which was founded in 1998 and opened its doors in 2000, had 9,118 students as of 2016. The National Commission on Higher Education of the Liberian government has approved UMU to award both bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

The United Methodist University in Liberia started investigating the possibility of founding a university in the 1970s, which resulted in the College of West Africa’s addition of a junior college business program in 1980. An exploratory committee was established by the church in 1986 to study the possibility of turning the school into a comprehensive university. To give Mass Communication Department students hands-on training, the institution announced plans to launch a radio station in December 2012 for a cost of US$25,000.
