About the University of Embu

A Legal Notice No. 65 dated June 17, 2011, issued by His Excellency the President, established the University of Embu (UoEm) as a Constituent College of the University of Nairobi. The Embu Institute of Agriculture, which opened its doors in 1947 as a training facility for agricultural staff, was replaced by EUC in 1968. EAST College began as an agricultural training facility. It was upgraded to become the Embu Agricultural Staff Training (EAST) College in 1990, with the mission to create and deliver quick management and technical courses as well as provide research and consulting services to improve performance in the agricultural industry.

This persisted up until June 2011, when the College was changed to Embu University College as a result of Legal Notice No. 65 of June 17.

President Mwai Kibaki officially opened the EUC council after it was upgraded from the Embu Agricultural Staff Training (EAST) College. It was a historic day for Embu University College on Friday, October 7, 2016. On this day, the institution became a full-fledged university after serving as a Constituent College of the University of Nottingham. At a festive ceremony held at State House in Nairobi, H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta officially presented the University of Embu with a charter.
