About the University of Maroua
The University of Maroua, also known as UMa, was founded by presidential decree n°2008/280 on August 9, 2008, and it is the sixth State University in Cameroon to have been established and opened. Thus, the Cameroonian government wants to make a strong statement about its plans to establish a prestigious institution in the Far North Region.
The evaluation of the UMa’s accomplishments since its founding has emphasized progression in the number of staff, an increasingly large and active support staff, more intense, varied, and high-quality research activities, and teachers-researchers whose promotion to different grades attests not only to dynamism in terms of research but also to the policy of encouragement and support put in place. Due to its management’s foresight, the professionalism of its staff, and the involvement of its teacher-researchers in development forums, particularly those about issues about the Sahel, such as floods, natural disasters, drought, etc., the UMa has emerged as a significant interlocutor of actors and decision-makers at the national level.
