Mbombela, South Africa is home to the University of Mpumalanga. In the beginning, it only took in 140 students, which was a tiny intake when it was first established in 2014.

The Lowveld College of Agriculture, KaNyamazane Hospitality School, and Siyabuswa Education Campus all have the infrastructure that is included in this new institution. At the moment, it provides a Diploma in Hotel Management, a Bachelor of Education, and a Bachelor of Agricultural. Dr. Ramaranka A. It is one of two brand-new institutions of higher learning in the country, the other being Kimberley’s Sol Plaatje University (formerly known as the University of the Northern Cape), which was established in 2017. The former MEC for Education, Mr. D D Mabuza, charged the University Education Committee and the University Technikon Education Cooperation Committee in 1996 with pursuing the creation of a university in the Province.

Under the direction of the late Prof. C. C. Mokadi, who founded the National Institute for Higher Education (Mpumalanga) in 2006, the province’s higher education was coordinated. The decision to construct two new institutions was made at the 2010 National General Council meeting of the African National Congress, which was held in eThekwini (Durban). This choice helped make it possible for a university to be established in the province of Mpumalanga.

In 2010, Dr. B. E. Nzimande, the Minister of Higher Education and Training, created two task teams to assess whether it would be feasible to build new universities in Mpumalanga and the Northern Cape. Prof. T. Z. Mthembu served as the team leader for the Mpumalanga task team, which in September 2011 issued a favorable report urging the creation of a new university in Mpumalanga.

The University of Mpumalanga was officially established in July 2013 after Mr. Jacob Zuma, the State President, revealed both the name of the new institution and the members of the Temporary Council in charge of overseeing its official foundation. An official government notice (No. 36772) was published on August 22, 2013, and on October 31, 2013, the University of Mpumalanga, a comprehensive institution, was officially and legally established. The Strategic Management Team, in charge of running the university daily, was established by the Interim Council.
