Akwa Ibom State University

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) was considered and funded by the Akwa Ibom State Government. Unity of people with a desire to continually seek information that addresses practical matters of development in Nigeria. The university released its doors to its pioneer students in the 2010/2011 academic year.

About Akwa Ibom State University 

Akwa Ibom State University is a conservative, multi-campus institution. The core campus is situated at Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. It attaches the convergence of Ikot Akpaden – Eastern Obolo road and Eket – Ikot Abasi highway. The next campus is situated at Obio Akpa, Oruk Anam Local Government Area, along Abak – Ikot Okoro Road. The bill officially establishing Akwa Ibom State University was contracted into law by His Excellency, Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom in September 2010. Professor Sunday W. Petters has been selected as the functional Vice-Chancellor with effect from 1st January 2010. Full academic activities in Akwa Ibom State University happening on 1st November 2010 with the admission of the first batch of 300 students in the Main (Mkpat Enin) and Obio Akpa Campuses for the 2010/2011 academic session. 

This first batch of students was acknowledged into the Faculties of Engineering, Natural and Applied Sciences, Oceanography, and Naval Architecture and Agriculture. The faculty of Social and Management Sciences was introduced in the 2011/2012 academic session. The Congregation has an overall function of helping as a forum for deliberating any University problem, or issue and making recommendations to the Council and Senate. The Congregation is made up of the universal assembly of senior degree-holding members of the University, both academic and non-teaching.

Answer: The AKSU Post UTME form for 2022/2023 is now obtainable online thru www.aksu.edu.ng and registering for AKSU post utme will start by April 2022. The final date for the registration of AKSU PUTME 2022 was scheduled between June 30th to July 31st, 2022.

Who founded AKSU?

Answer: On October 18, 2000, at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State at the time, Arc (Obong) Victor Attah instated a committee for the founding of Akwa Ibom State University of Technology.

The committee was made up of Professor Ephraim E. Okon, Professor Ekong E. Ekong, Professor Ulo K. Enyenihi, Professor Reuben K. Udo, Professor E. W. Mbipom, Engr. Mrs. Mayen Adetiba, Engr. Esio O. Mboho, Engr. Akpan U. Ukpoho, Engr. Uyai Ekaette, Dr. Usen J. Antia, Sir Pius Wilson, Dr. Engineer Linus Asuquo, Mr. Moses Essien, Dr. Ini Udoka, Professor Joe Uyanga and Mr. E. J. Akpan. The University released its doors to its pioneer students in the 2010/2011 academic year.

There was an order to launch AKUTECH, a scheme which has been comprised by the former Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong (Barr) Godswill Akpabio foremost to the portrayal of the University Law on September 15, 2009, by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

What are the requirements for AKSU?

Answer: Admission requirements through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
1. Least of Credit passes in Five (5) subjects with the English Language at SSCE, GCE O’Level, and any other corresponding examinations.
2. UTME marks of at least 180 and above (subject to change).
3. Post-UTME screening score of not less than 180 (subject to change).
4. In addition to the above, applicants must make Akwa Ibom State University’s 1st choice to be suitable to write the Post-UTME Screening Test.
5. Applicants who score less than 180 on the Post-UTME screening test are not qualified for admission into any program in AKSU regardless of any higher scores gotten at UTME.
6. For final selection into programs, the applicant’s average scores from the UTME and Post-UTME screening Tests are used.
The cut-off point for admission differs from one program to another.

Admission through Direct Entry
1. Least of credit passes in five subjects with the English Language at SSCE, GCE O’Level, or correspondent qualification.
2. Either one A’ levels, OND, or NCE in applicable subject areas.
3. A satisfactory score in the Direct Entry Screening Exercise.
4. Final assortment is grounded on a combination of the applicant’s credentials and score in the direct entry screening test.
