It offers an American-style liberal arts higher education at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. Originated in 2003, AUN, Africa’s first “Development University,” is attributed to the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Its present faculty number 93, is undergraduate and graduate registration is 1500 students.

About the American University of Nigeria

Originated in 2004 by a past Vice President of Nigeria and Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, the American University of Nigeria recorded its first students in 2005. The university is situated in Yola, the state capital of Adamawa.

The university was originally termed the ABTI American University of Nigeria before it was retitled AUN. AUN is the first American-style institution of higher learning in sub-Saharan Africa (the only other such university in Africa is the American University in Cairo in Egypt). AUN is an affiliate of the Global Liberal Arts Alliance.

The university’s present president is Dr. Margee Ensign, headed by Dr. David Huwiler, Dr. Michael Smith, Dr. Margee Ensign, and Dr. Dawn Dekle.

The institution has measured a university that would focus on progress matters while providing an education modeled after the best US practices in content and pedagogy. The three unique constituent schools were Arts & Sciences, Business & Entrepreneurship, and IT & Computing. In 2007, the name of the institution was changed to its current name of the American University of Nigeria (AUN). The developer class of 92 students graduated in 2009. Every class since then has graduated on schedule.

In 2008, the National Universities Commission (NUC) qualified AUN programs and re-accredited them in 2013. In 2012, AUN threw a graduate program, the Executive Master’s degree in Information Technology. Since then, more programs up to the Ph.D. level have been acknowledged by the NUC.

In 2014, it unconfined the Robert A. Pastor Library and e-Learning Center.

Who founded AUN?

Answer: Atiku Abubakar (born 25 November 1946) is a Nigerian politician and businessman who aided as the vice president of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007 through the presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo. He ran as governor of Adamawa State in 1990, 1997, and later, in 1998, being selected before becoming Olusegun Obasanjo’s running mate during the 1999 presidential election and re-elected in 2003.

Since his entrance into politics in 1989, Atiku Abubakar has ineffectively disputed five times for the Office of President of Nigeria in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019. In 1993, he disputed the Social Democratic Party presidential primaries losing to Moshood Abiola and Baba Gana Kingibe. He was a presidential aspirant of the Action Congress in the 2007 presidential election coming in third to Umaru Yar’Adua of the PDP and Muhammadu Buhari of the ANPP. He disputed the presidential primaries of the People’s Democratic Party during the 2011 presidential election losing out to incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan. In 2014, he combined the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2015 presidential election and challenged the presidential primaries losing to Muhammadu Buhari. In 2017, he reverted to the Peoples Democratic Party and was the party presidential applicant during the 2019 presidential election, again losing to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

Answer: Students must have a least Jamb score of 160 or JAMB’s yearly certified cut-off score to be measured for admission at AUN.
Also obligatory for admissions deliberation are five (5) credits, with English Language and Mathematics, on no more than two SSCE sittings, or a corresponding from a country that needs other types of exit exams or consistent tests. Exclusions, if any, are made on a case-by-case source.
