About Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources
An agricultural university in Gaborone, Botswana, is called the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN), formerly known as the Botswana College of Agriculture (BCA).
It was created as a parastatal under the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security by an act of the Botswana Parliament, Act No. 12 of 2015. (MoA). On November 12, 2013, at a ceremony on the Sebele campus, the then-Ministry of Agriculture announced the Government’s decision, kicking off the transformation process. By the implementation of the Act of Parliament 12 of 2015 as a Parastatal under the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security, BUAN officially became a university on February 1st, 2016. (MoA). An agreement between the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), Rome (working with the government of Denmark), and the government of Botswana led to the creation of the Meat Industry Training Institute (MITI) in 1984.
However, the Regional Training Centre for Meat Inspectors and Meat Technologists in Africa was its previous name. The center was given to the government of Botswana and is now known as the Meat Inspection Training Center. It is run by the Department of Veterinary Services of the Ministry of Agriculture (MITC). The institution was taken over by Botswana College of Agriculture (BCA), renamed BUAN, on April 1st, 2012. The center, which is headquartered in the southern region of Botswana in the town of Lobatse, provides a Certificate program in Meat Inspection.
To further the mission of the BCA by offering top-notch in-service and continuing education in agriculture and natural resources, the Centre for In-service and Continuing Education (CICE) was established in 1995. The Center creates, develops, and offers market-driven training that is approved by the Botswana Qualification Authority (BQA). With Presidential Decision CAB 21 (B)/2013, the Government of Botswana authorized the conversion of the former Botswana College of Agriculture into a university of agriculture and natural resources on August 27, 2013. The choice was in keeping with the College’s 2009–2016 Strategic Plan, which had the goal of becoming “an agricultural institution of international repute.”
