About Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University
Wa Polytechnic was the predecessor to Dr. Hilla Limann Technological University (DHLTU), which opened its doors in September 1999. Its digital address is XW-0547-6594. However, the Government did not appoint the temporary Governing Council until 2002 to give the Institution policy direction. Higher National Diploma (HND) programs in Agricultural Engineering and Secretaryship and Management Studies were offered to the first group of tertiary students in 2003. The university now offers fourteen (14) HND programs as well as other challenging short courses and programs (information available at www.dhltu.edu.gh).
The institution was transformed into a Technical University as a result of the passage of the Technical Universities Act, 2016 (Act 922), the Technical Universities (Amendment) Act 2018 (Act 974), and the Technical Universities (Amendment) Act 2020 (Act 1016).
The university will launch nine (9) Bachelor of Technology programs in the 2022–2023 academic year, in keeping with its current status and mission. The last phases of certification are being completed for the new Bachelor programs that will be offered. Moreover, graduate programs are being created and will be unveiled soon.
As the sole Technical University that began operations with shoddy facilities and no seed money, DHLTU encountered and continues to encounter extremely difficult teething issues. During its founding, DHLTU operated out of facilities that were rented. For instance, the Wa Secondary Technical School provided a four-classroom block to be used as classrooms, a library, a computer lab, as well as departmental offices, while the Wa Municipal Education Directorate released its former offices to house the Central Administration of the then Wa Polytechnic. Also, two halls each from the Controller and Accountant General’s Department and the Institute of Adult Education, Washington, served as extra temporary classrooms.
Later, the Institution purchased the property for its permanent location and created a master plan to direct the planned growth of its physical infrastructure. With the help of GETFUND, the University was able to construct some staff bungalows, many of which are still unfinished, as well as an administration building, a library, a complex of lecture halls, and a multifunctional workshop. The remaining infrastructure projects, which include facilities for students’ hostels, a faculty building that will house offices for academic staff, a modern auditorium, a computer lab, and a cafeteria, among others, are still in the planning stages. To build the University’s necessary infrastructure, management is working incredibly hard with the Governing Council and other stakeholders.

Answer: Below are the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University entry requirements;
A. DIRECT ENTRY
SSSCE/WASSCE HOLDERS: Passes in three core subjects—English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies—plus three (3) pertinent elective subjects—plus credit passes in the remaining two.
For SSSCE Candidates: Passes (A–D) in six (6) topics, three (3) of which are core subjects (English and math included) and three (3) of which are pertinent electives.
For WASSCE Candidates: Three (3) core subjects with passing grades (A1–D7), including English and mathematics, and three (3) elective topics with passing grades (A1–C6).
The total of the six subjects—three (3) core and three (3) electives—should not exceed totals of 24 for the SSSCE and 39 for the WASSCE.
Applicants who have scores from both grading scales will be handled individually.
RSA Stage III/ ABCE Holders: Two (2) subjects are passed (at least, one of the passes should be a Grade D or better). Also, the applicant is required to have earned credit passes in five GBCE topics, including English, mathematics, integrated science, and social studies (old program).
GBCE HOLDERS (New program): The applicant must have three (3) passes (A-D) in the required core subjects (English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies) in addition to three (3) passes (A-D) in the required electives. The total number of subjects should not exceed twenty-four (24).
DBS Holders: Applicants who are DBS Holders must possess a minimum of four (4) or five (5) DBS passes, respectively, for the Accounting Option or Secretarial Option. Moreover, candidates must possess four (4) WASSCE (A1-D7) or four (4) SSSCE (A-D) passes in English Language and Mathematics.
B MATURE ENTRY
i. Candidates need to be at least 25 years old and have three (3) years of professional experience in the field of study they are applying for.
ii. Candidates must succeed in an entrance exam in English language and mathematics that will be administered by the Polytechnic.
iii. The applicants should have credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in WASSCE or any other nationally recognized standard High School level examinations in place of such exams, according to the clause.
