About Fayoum University

A public institution called Fayoum University (FU) is situated in the Egyptian city of Faiyum in northern Egypt (Arabic: Jame’at al-fayoum). Fayoum University is a public university housed within the University of Cairo from 1976 to 2005. It was founded as a separate campus in August 2005, with 2,000 teaching members and a student body of roughly 25,000. The oasis city of Fayoum, which is about 63 miles southwest of Cairo, is well-known for its agricultural output and tourism.

The Fayoum College of Education was founded as one of the faculties connected to Cairo University in 1975. Students from throughout Egypt participated in the university’s well-attended sand skiing event in Fayoum in 2018. The 14 faculties at Fayoum University include graduate and undergraduate programs as well as open education possibilities.

One of the Fayoum-based faculties associated with Cairo University was founded in 1975 and is called the Faculty of Education. Thereafter, in 1976, came the Faculty of Agriculture. The Faculty of Engineering was eventually formed in 1981. At the issuance of a presidential proclamation in 1983, Cairo University’s Fayoum Branch was recognized as a separate branch.

By issuing Republican Order No. (84) for the year 2005, which established Fayoum University, the people of Fayoum finally saw their dream come true. The Republican Decree No. (193) for the year 2005 creating the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Archeology was then issued in response. After the conclusion of the two decisions, Prof. Galal Mustafa Saeed was chosen to lead Fayoum University. After that, Prof. Ahmed Magdy El Gohary was chosen to lead the university as president from 2008 to 2011, and Prof. Magdy Tawfiq Hanna served as acting president from November 10, 2011, until December 6, 2011, respectively. 

From 2011 to 2014, Prof. Abdel Hamid Abdel Tawab held the position of President of the University, and from 2015 to 2018, Prof. Khaled Ismail Hamza, Prof. Ashraf Abdel Hafeez, and Prof. Muhammad IssaSayed Ahmed served in that capacity. From 2019 to 2020, Prof. Muhammad IssaSayed Ahmed was in charge of the University’s operations. Prof. Ahmed JaberShedeed served as the university’s president from 18 September 2019 to 7 July 2021. From 7 July 2021 until 12 January 2021, Prof. Muhammad Saeed Mahmoud Abu Al-Ghar was in charge of the university’s operations.

From 2/12/2021 to the present, Prof. Dr. Yasser MagdyHatata has served as the president of Fayoum University. Currently, Fayoum University has 19 faculties and two institutes, including the Institute of Research and Strategic Studies for the Nile Basin countries, the Technical Institute of Egypt, and the Faculty of Education, Agriculture, Engineering, Social Service, Dar Al-Ulum, Science, Tourism and Hotels, Specific Education, Archeology, Medicine, Arts, Computers and Information, Early Childhood Education, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Law, Physical Education, and Al-Alsun.
