About Heliopolis University

The goal of the non-profit institution in Egypt called Heliopolis University is sustainable development. Almost 1,700 students in five faculties attended Heliopolis University in the fall of 2018.

Between the Belbeis Desert Road and Cairo International Airport, in Salam City, El Horreya, greater Cairo, is where you’ll find Heliopolis University.

Under presidential order 298/2009, Heliopolis University was created in 2009. In the faculties of Commerce and Economics, Engineering, and Pharmacy, the first 128 students joined in 2012.

Ibrahim Abouleish, the brains behind the 1977-founded SEKEM program, had the concept for a sustainable university. The university is seen as playing a significant role in the SEKEM Initiative. The University adheres to sustainable ideals, the same as other parts of SEKEM. These concepts are broken down into other categories, such as sociological, cultural, and corporate life, all of which must be in harmony with the environment. These four key areas were addressed by the SEKEM Initiative within a defined framework known as a sustainable flower.

Students study their courses within this framework as well as the arts, culture, social sciences, environmental studies, and foreign languages. These abilities are covered in a required course of study known as the Core program. Heliopolis University runs a wastewater system, and various photovoltaic installations for teaching purposes, and offers students and employees access to a cafeteria, a café, as well as sports and recreation facilities.

Additionally, the university’s campus has a botanical garden. Heliopolis University now has five faculties that confer degrees when the colleges of Physical Therapy and Organic Agriculture opened their doors in 2018. In 2012, the three faculties of engineering, business, and pharmacy began their first academic year. These faculties are all built on the idea of sustainability, which maintains the harmony between people and the environment as well as theory and practice.
