In Kenya, there is a public institution called Maasai Mara University (MMU), originally known as Narok University College. Approximately 147 kilometers (91 miles) west of Nairobi, the nation’s capital, via road, MMU is situated in the town of Narok in Narok County. The Commission on University Education of Kenya has granted MMU accreditation. On July 16, 2008, Moi University’s component college, Narok University College, was established. The University received its new name in 2013.

Professor Kitche Magak, MMU’s acting vice chancellor and an expert in reproductive health, stated in the Kenyan print media in May 2021 that the university was starting to produce reusable sanitary towels. Girls from low-income homes who couldn’t otherwise buy them would receive the towels.

Chris Kirubi, an industrialist and philanthropist, Jennifer Riria Ph.D., a businesswoman, banker, and corporate executive who serves as the CEO of Kenya Women Holding Group (now Echo Network Africa Limited), and Bedi Investments Limited, a textile and apparel manufacturer are additional collaborators on this project for female sanitary towels. They contributed commercial equipment to the undertaking.
