About the University of Kabianga

The Kabianga Division of the Kericho West District is where the University of Kabianga is situated. The university is located in the Kabianga Complex, which also houses the Kipsigis County Council Tea Farm, the former Kabianga Famers Training Center, and Kabianga High School and Primary School. The history of the Kabianga Complex is extensive.

In 1925, the Kabianga Government School first opened. From 1929 until 1963, when it was transferred to the current Kericho Teachers Training College, Kabianga Teachers’ Training College was in operation. After the change of location, the Kabianga Farmers Training Center was founded there in 1959. Its main purpose was to provide a training ground for farmers from the South Rift and beyond. In May 2007, Kabianga Farmers Training Center became into Kabianga Campus of Moi University. 

The university campus was upgraded to a university college in May 2009. It received a charter from H.E., Hon. Mwai Kibaki on March 1, 2013, and subsequently became a full-fledged university.

The institution is close to the international tea-growing corporations Unilever, James Finlay, and George Williamson and is located in the tea-growing highlands of Kericho in the southwest of Kenya’s Rift Valley Province. It is roughly 26 kilometers from Kericho town and 6.2 kilometers off-road from Kabianga Dairies, formerly known as Premier Dairies on the Kericho-Kisii route. Chepnyogaa Market and Kabianga Market are nearby shopping malls. These markets are well-known for their other activities, including high-value livestock auctions.

The Kipsigis language is spoken by the neighborhood residents. This area is well-known for its mixed agriculture. Dairy farming is the primary form of agriculture.
